So, I picked my favorite spot on the couch (since sitting is so good for the spine..ha) and started typing away. Here's the result...
The Top 5 Reasons You Should Care More About Your Spine...
1) Your Abs Will Thank You - We all want strong, ripped abs, right? Nod your head yes. Getting the mid-section that you want is easier than you might think, but too many people that I talk to that want those washboard abs are spending way too much time doing too many crunches.
Every new client that I've worked with over the past decade will tell you that we spent more time strengthening the back of the body than we did the front and they'll also tell you that they lost inches from their waistline.
If you're doing 1,000 crunches each day, can you say the same? Or, does your back still hurt? Grab a copy of How to Lose Belly Fat and Get a Flat Stomach by Dr. Charles Inniss. It's one of the books I reference most often in designing core workouts for my clients.
2) Chronic Pain is Not Fun - If you aren't suffering yourself from severe lower back pain, then you probably know someone who is suffering.
Many of us dread visiting the doctor already, so why chance having to sit in the doctor's office and hear the words, "you're going to have to have surgery on your back." If I knew that was coming, I would do everything in my power to prevent it starting with lower back exercies.
3) Your Weight Loss Depends On It - Successful weight loss programs are dependent upon your ability to complete some challenging total-body movements. If your lower back strength is not up to par, then you will have a difficult time completing the exercises and sticking with a consistent workout routine.
Here's one way to look at it...doing back exercises helps to strengthen the abdominal muscles which help to strengthen your entire body creating fat loss and lean muscle gains.
4) You'll Get Promoted at Work - Did I make this one up? Yes and No. Maybe I should change it to "You Might Get Promoted at Work."
Using back exercises to strengthen the lower back and good mobility at the hips will improve your posture. People with great posture look confident. When you look confident, you tend to act with confidence. Don't we all tend to get more accomplished when we're feeling confident about ourselves? Bring that can-do attitude and your good posture to work and see what happens.
5) Life Will Be More Enjoyable - People with bad backs have to make decisions on what they can and cannot participate in based on how their back feels that day. Some days they can't even get out of bed (which doesn't help matters much). Some days they miss work, but more importantly, they miss out on quality time with family.
If you've missed a family ski trip, summer fun at the beach, or just playing in the yard, then you understand what I'm talking about.
Don't let yourself get to the point of sitting across from the doctor waiting for the bad news.
