Your iPod Personal Trainer

The iPod Personal Trainer:
An Introduction to the New Wave of Fitness

I can remember when I first heard about becoming an iPod Personal Trainer. It was this year.

Speaking of music, I can also remember my first record (Thriller by Michael Jackson), when I received my first audio tape (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince), and when I bought my first CD (The Soundtrack to Above the Rim).

Don’t worry, my tastes have changed and broadened!

What’s more important, however, is that I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t involved in some sort of physical activity, whether it was karate, swimming, soccer, or every other sport that I’ve dabbled in throughout the years.

For those of you that know me well, you can attest to the fact that I am rarely found without my iPod. My selection of songs is always playing whether I’m working on the weights, working on my running, or working on the computer.

Many of you may have similar attachments to your iPod (hopefully not as drastic as mine are!) and to your fitness regimen.

What’s interesting is that this musical fascination began far before the iPod even existed. I can remember and I’m sure my parents can too, when I would study in high school, always with music on in the background.

As a Personal Trainer, I often hear from people that it is difficult for them to stick to a routine when they aren’t seeing me for personal training or for the popular burning calories boot camp classes. Normally, most people would head to the gym and jump on a treadmill for a little while, right? Yes. If that’s the case, what’s usually attached to your arm or attached to your waist? Your iPod is, right? Yes, again.

For a lot of us, this little device has probably turned some really short workouts into something a bit more effective.

Now, instead of my clients just jumping on the cardiovascular machines they are most familiar with, they are able to follow my iPod Personal Trainer workout routines with selected exercises for cardiovascular exercise, isometric exercise, strength training, even yoga positions. The response thus far has been great.

You get a visual of the starting position and finishing position of each exercise on your iPod while you are still listening to your own music. All the exercises are in the order in which you should perform them and all the variables are mapped out.

Having the iPod Personal Trainer software has been the easiest way to continue working with personal training clients that have moved out of the Boston area and has been an important resource in sharing individualized fitness programs with new clients all around the United States.

If you fall into the category of going to the gym, hitting the treadmill, and you know there’s more you could be doing, then take a look at some of the iPod workouts I’ve designed so far. Enjoy!

Committed to your fitness success,
Boh
