"Personal Trainer Class in Career Advancement"Health Club: Personal Trainer Class for Climbing the LadderPersonal Trainer Class would have been good for this -- a question that maybe I didn't ask myself early in my career was, "Do I want to be a Personal Trainer forever"? Maybe you have or maybe you haven't asked yourself that same question...yet. IMPORTANT: You don't have to have the answer right now. In this "Personal Trainer Class", we plan to introduce you to the many options you'll have for career advancement in a large health club chain. Some options include:
Let's take a closer look at each of these "Personal Trainer class" opportunities. Personal Trainers - This is what the majority of this website is about. This is a common starting point for many people that have "climbed the corporate fitness ladder". Group Exercise Instructors - Not everyone is comfortable in front of a group of people. It does take practice. If you are willing to run around the front of the room with "your hair on fire", I can guarantee that your Personal Training business will grow substantially. We will cover this in more detail as we continue to add more Chapters. Small Group Personal Trainers - Think of this as a coaching a small team. This is typically a niche market where you may have 3 - 10 people who have paid a fee to work with you each week in a group setting. Your earning potential here is usually higher than in individual Personal Training sessions. Faculty - This is a terrific position to hone your public speaking skills. You must have great command of human anatomy and movement, exercise prescription, the business of Personal Training, and an ability to communicate that knowledge and your experiences successfully. Fitness Manager - The leader of the health club's fitness team is responsible for scheduling, business planning, coaching, educating, motivating, and tracking the performance of the entire Personal Training staff. In some cases, the position may require additional facility and Group Exercise responsibilities. Group Exercise Manager - Group Exercise Managers are responsible for the hiring of class instructors, coordination of the Group Exercise schedule, and continued education and certification of each of those instructors. They also help to develop and schedule Small Group Personal Training events. General Manager - Depending on the health club that you work at, the General Manager's role may differ. He or she may be responsible for leadership and coaching of the membership sales division, facility maintenance, customer service initiatives, direction and supervision of other managers, hiring, and community outreach activities. IMPORTANT: General management skills transcend industries. This means that should you ever leave the fitness industry, those skills and techniques are most readily converted to other positions. Regional Management Positions - Those holding rank here have normally proven themselves successful in multiple roles. Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills are a must. Experience and success are the prime drivers of this type of position. Personal Trainer Class: Points to RememberEach of these types of positions should be available to you in a large health club setting. I have seen many friends work their way up the fitness ladder and have been privileged to do so myself. Remember, you don't need to know right now, but as your career progresses, you may yearn for additional responsibilities, resume builders, or avenues for increased income generation.
