"Understanding the Personal Trainer Job Outlook"

Thumbs up? or Thumbs down? Take a peek at the Personal Trainer Job Outlook

The Personal Trainer Job Outlook and the fitness industry as a whole have changed dramatically over the past two decades. What was once considered a luxury only available to the "Rich & Famous" is now looked upon as a bit more of a necessity.

This shift in thinking comes partly because of increased awareness of the potential risks of a sedentary lifestyle but also because organizations around the world are starting to add more credibility to the Personal Training Profession. We will cover these organizing bodies in great detail in Chapter #2.

For the Young & the Young at Heart

In my years of Personal Training experience, my youngest clients were 8 year olds in my Youth Sports classes and my eldest clients were nearing their 90th birthdays! Thankfully, I was able to tailor safe and effective workouts to fit the goals of each of these groups....AND, they had fun in the process.

IMPORTANT: Although you may want to choose a niche immediately, the most successful trainers are able to adapt their training styles to fit the goals of any person seeking their assistance. More on this later!

The Health Conscious Baby Boomer

The majority of my Personal Training clients fall somewhere in the middle of the two extremes that I mentioned above. The men and women of my parents generation are typically more highly educated and have earned more money throughout their careers than the generation before them.

At the same time, however, we have seen increases in the instances of many diseases including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer among others. We've also seen our society as a whole become "lazier". We spend less time outdoors and more time sitting on the couch, at work, or in the car.

Media Attention & the Personal Trainer Job Outlook

I guess the only good thing about more people sitting on the couch is that they've probably seen on TV the great things that Personal Trainers and Health Educators are doing and the horrible things that a sedentary lifestyle contributes to. In some cases, the health conscious couch potato could be the next person whose life you help to change.
