...What Most People Do...
Most people interested in building a website buy the cheapest site they can find.
Up go a few pages with their contact information, a page about their product and/or service, and and 'About Me' page. They may even get fancy by spending a bunch of money on flashy graphics and lots of other extras (things that don't help you get found and actually are pretty annoying for the most part).
Most sites like that make it to 5 - 10 pages and then they sit -- forever -- doing nothing for their owners.
Why? 2 Reasons...
1) No One Can Find It - Does your contact page use the keyword contact? Go type the word contact into Google, Yahoo, MSN, or whatever search engine you like. Did your page come up? Probably not, right? Your site is buried along with millions upon millions of others. That's just a little on search engine optimization (SEO) using keywords and keyword phrases.
2) There is No Information Anyway - Does your site provide the valuable information that people are looking for? People don't want to know about you (other than that you are a respected professional). What they are really after is your information; information that will allow them to solve a problem or reach a goal. Does your site provide some of that valuable content? Is it enough for them to stay on your site and learn more? Or, are they going to click on "Back" and look at the sites of your competition?
